In a tough Police Sport UK Ladies Basketball Tournament Northumbria's team reached the quarter finals.

Northumbria's team - PC Karen Eaketts, PC Nicola Hughes, Kim Johnson, PC Stacey Ehala, PC Jocelyn Raine, Alyson Davey, PC Emma Chambers and
Sgt Karen Graham - gave a strong performance to progress to the quarter finals where they played the 2010 winners and eventual 2011 winners from the Met.

Northumbria's team was re-formed in 2010, and they brought five new players to the 2011 tournament including, Kim, Stacey, Emma, Jocelyn and Karen.

The draw put Northumbria up against Lancashire and the West Midlands in the first round.

A strong team defensive performance together with sharp shooting from national league player Karen Eaketts and three point shooting from Jocelyn Raine meant the team progressed to the quarter finals and their game with the Met whose team was made up predominantly of national league players.

The Met team was shocked by the strong aggressive defence from Northumbria. Power forward Alyson Davey gave an exceptionally strong defensive performance against the Met.

Northumbria's team Coach Tom Calvert said: " Despite our strong defence we were eventually out gunned by the Met, though we did manage to keep them to their lowest score of the tournament."

The team is currently looking for new players for this season. Anyone interested should contact Nicola Hughes (8731) or Tom Calvert (750) via e-mail. Training is held twice a month at the HQ sports hall on Wednesdays, at 7pm.
